Chapter Philanthropy

Phi Mu & Children's Miracle Network Hospitals

One of the most rewarding parts of being a Phi Mu is being involved with a group of sisters dedicated to something more than themselves. In fact, the first line of the Phi Mu creed states, "To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand," and we strive to make our philanthropic involvement more than something to put on a website or a slideshow.  Not only does our Phi Mu chapter work together for our national philanthropy, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, but we also work in a variety of service projects that appeal to us beyond our Phi Mu calling.

Phi Mu & Central Valley Children's Hospital

Our Phi Mu chapter is partnered with a Children's Miracle Network hospital, Central Valley Children’s Hospital, in Madera, California.  We raise funds and donate throughout the school year to benefit the hospital. Not only is it a joy to see them smile, but we have also seen that they make just as big—if not an even bigger—impact on our lives.  We also deliver cards, toys and coloring books to the children so that they remember we care, even when we can’t see them face-to-face. Phi Mu hosts one major event each semester to benefit Children's Miracle Network and Central Valley Children's Hospital.

Dance Marathon

One of our favorite philanthropy events is Dance Marathon! Our members continuously raise money throughout the semester and celebrate with a fun night of dancing with everyone who donated. This past year we raised exactly $22,556 and danced for six hours straight for the patients who cannot.

Check out some more information about Dance Marathon at https://phimuetazetadancem.wixsite.com/phimu or contact our Philanthropy Chair Taylor Ramos.

Mr. Phi Guy & Phi Mu Soccer

In the spring, we host our Mr. Phi Guy competition. Mr. Phi Guy is week-long philanthropy in which each fraternity selects one brother to participate and represent their house. The chosen Mr. Phi Guy candidate competes all week against the other Mr. Phi Guy candidates from the other houses. Individual events include talent, skits, Phi Mu wear, swimsuit wear, and formal wear.  In addition to the individual events, fraternity members are able to contribute by participating in events like a coin drive. The closing event of the week is a soccer tournament which was open to all fraternities at Fresno State's campus.

This past spring, Kappa Sigma took home the title of Mr. Phi Guy and Sigma Chi won the soccer tournament! This past year the event raised lots of toys and over $2,200 that was directly donated to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Fraternity Philanthropies

Phi Mu loves participating in fraternity philanthropies. Each semester, we participate in 3-4 fraternity philanthropies and help raise money for that specific fraternity's organization. This past year, we have won Sigma Nu's Softball, Lambda Chi Alpha's Volleyball Tournament, Kappa Sigma's Dodge-ball Tournament, and Phi Delta Theta's Phi Games!

Kids Day

The Fresno Bee hosts and prints out newspapers all benefitting the Central Valley Children's hospital to raise awareness and funds for research and support of the hospital. Phi Mu proudly participates every year along with other chapters in the Greek community. Phi Mu has been one of the top-selling Panhellenic Sorority on campus and we plan to continue the tradition every year!

Other Community Activities

Not only does Phi Mu support CMNH, but we also support other causes throughout our community. From collecting cans for the local food pantry to picking up trash at a nearby park or donating blood to save a life, Phi Mu loves to give back and is there to Lend a Helping Hand
